Harrison is the headquarters location for many major corporations whose offices are located along Route 287.

Like many Westchester communities, Harrison's real estate market is expensive.  As of October 31, 2006 - there were 55 real estate listings in the Westchester/Putnam MLS for Harrison, NY, ranging in asking price from $550,000 for a 3 bedroom, 1 bath tudor-style home to $5,250,000 for a 5 bedroom, 4 bath mediterranean-style villa on nearly two acres.

History

The first settlers were Quakers who settled in what became the Village of Purchase where they built their first Meeting House in 1727. Harrison was originally a farming community, and people worked in weaving shops, saw mills or grist mills. Although there were farms in the southern end of town, wealthy business people from New York City bought the land for their country homes and many large estates were developed, which accounts for the large number of estate homes in Harrison today. The town has retained its rural character to a greater degree than some of the other communities within a comparable distance from New York.

Public Schools

The Harrison Central School District is home to 3 nationally recognized schools of excellence. Harrison has a high achieving, fast growing school district with superior standards and high aspirations. It is composed of six buildings: four elementary schools, a middle school and a high school, currently enrolls approximately 3,600 students and employs more than 400 full time and 200 part time teachers, administrators and support personnel.

Recreation & Culture

Harrison recreation programs are well known to be among the best in New York State. The town offers a comprehensive and diversified program of leisure time services under the auspices of the Harrison Recreation Department. Year round indoor activities are conducted in the department's three community centers. Programs are designed to meet the interests and needs of pre-schoolers through senior citizens. Outdoor activities including swimming, tennis, softball, baseball, and picnicking are enjoyed in community parks and on school fields. Five day camp programs are conducted throughout the community during the months of July and August.

Houses of Worship

Religious congregations in Harrison include All Saints' Episcopal Church, Church of Saint Gregory the Great, JCC of Harrison (Conservative) and Young Israel of Harrison (Orthodox).
